John Mayer dedicates song to Katy Perry, praises 'my Katy' (Video)
Days after pop star Katy Perry posted a cryptic 4th of July-themed picture that seemed to show her with on-again, off-again boyfriend John Mayer, the latter singer praised her at one of his concerts before dedicating a song to her -- "A Face To Call Home."
Mayer, 35, spoke to a screaming crowd at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday, July 6, during his first major concert since undergoing throat surgery last year. During his encore, before singing his final song -- "A Place To Call Home," the singer talked about how Perry, 28, helped him when he was unable to speak following the procedure, which had forced him to cancel a U.S. tour. Mayer had had a granuloma removed from his vocal cords.
"I was just getting to know a girl and I started really reconsidering just how difficult everything was gonna be right as he was putting the needle through my neck because I was still getting to know this girl and I wasn't gonna be able to talk to her," Mayer said.
"And she was more incredible than I ever thought because she would order for me -- I would whisper in her ear and she would order for me with the waiter," he added. "I would whisper in her ear and she would tell people, 'It's nice to meet you, he says.' And I did a lot of whispering."
Mayer mentioned how the two used iChat, despite "really bad cell phone service and really bad internet service," to communicate when he was away from her, in Montana, where he has a home.
"She was so patient as to even continue to get to know me and love me while we would be on speakerphone and look at intermittent photos of each other that were coming through this really choked satellite internet," he said. "This is a long time coming for the both of us and I wanna dedicate this to my Katy, who is my face to call home."
It is unclear if the two are officially back together. On July 4, Perry posted on her Instagram page a photo of what appeared to be her and Mayer getting cozy. They had split around March but were seen together in June at a Friars Club event honoring comedian Don Rickles (see PHOTOS from the event, which was also attended by "Full House" alums John Stamos and Bob Saget). They have not commented.
