John Mayer, Katy Perry star in 'Who You Love' video (Poll)
John Mayer and Katy Perry give fans a glimpse into their chemistry as a couple in their new music video for the song "Who You Love."
The couple premiered the music video on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Dec. 17 and the two sat down for a rare joint interview with co-host George Stephanopoulos. The music video and the interview can be viewed below.
Mayer, who has been linked romantically to Perry since at least August 2012, told "GMA" that he had been toying around with the idea of the song for years, and at the recommendation of a producer invited Perry to duet on the track, included on his 2013 album "Paradise Valley."
"It was an easy phone call," Perry said regarding the song.
The music video finds the couple, as well as numerous others, riding a mechanical bull in the middle of a desert, with cutaways focusing closely on Mayer and Perry gazing into each other's eyes. Lyrics for the song include, "My girl, she ain't the one that I saw coming / And sometimes I don't know which way to go."
Mayer also said that despite knowing that he and Perry would be subjected to scrutiny regarding the song, he felt the song's authenticity was strong enough for listeners to move past the duo's couple status.
"For me it had to be about, and it always has really been about, the song," Mayer said. "If the song is great, you're sort of in a bubble of authenticity, I think, and if the performance is great, which she gave an incredible performance, you know it's a pretty big moving target to be a couple and have a song, but there's an authenticity to it when you hear it, you just stop thinking about it."
