John Galliano fired by Christian Dior after video of anti-Semitic rant surfaces
Fashion Designer John Galliano has been fired by Christian Dior after video posted online shows him praising Adolf Hitler.
Dior said Tuesday that Galliano was immediately laid off and the process of firing him already started, according to the Associated Press.
Before the announcement by Dior, Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman, who is a spokesmodel for Miss Dior Cherie perfume, said she was "shocked" and "disgusted" by the video.
"As an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way," Portman said in a statement provided to the Associated Press on Tuesday.
The Sun posted a video online showing a seemingly drunken Galliano telling a café patron, "I love Hitler."
The British designer went on to say, "People like you would be dead. Your mothers, your forefathers, would all be [expletive] gassed."
Galliano was suspended as Dior's creative director after a different anti-Semitic incident in Paris last week.
It's unclear how Portman's contract with Dior will be affected.
Portman won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role on Sunday for her role in "Black Swan." It was the actress' first win and second nomination. She is expecting her first child with "Black Swan" co-star and fiance Benjamin Millepied.
