Joey Lawrence to strip down with The Chippendales
Former "Blossom" star Joey Lawrence has agreed to join the erotic male dancing troupe The Chippendales.
The 36-year-old will sing, dance, host and strip down in the Las Vegas production from June 7 until June 24. He told the Associated Press that he was inspired by Channing Tatum's upcoming movie "Magic Mike," which is set in an all-male strip club.
"I found out that guys like Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem have also done stuff like this and being the fearless guy that I am, I said yes," Lawrence told the Associated Press.
Joseph Lawrence is best known for portraying Blossom Russo's brother Joey on the popular 90's series, "Blossom." His character was the dimwitted middle child whose trademark phrase 'Whoa!' earned him a place of honor in the archives of '90s pop culture.
Following Blossom, Lawrence appeared alongside his two real-life brothers, Matthew and Andy Lawrence on shows such as "Brotherly Love," "Run of the House" and "Half and Half."
Lawrence celebrated his 36th birthday on April 20, with his brothers and wife at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The three Lawrence men posed next to the Haunted Mansion at the same spot they were photographed together in 1995 during a Disneyland Halloween celebration.
The actor currently stars opposite Melissa Joan Hart in the ABC Family series, "Melissa and Joey," which will premiere its second season on May 30. He also appeared with the actress in the 2009 ABC Family TV movie, "My Fake Fiancé."
Lawrence married Michelle Vella in August 2002, but divorced in April 2005. He married his current wife, Chandie Yawn-Nelson on July 3, 2005. The couple has two daughters, Charleston 'Charlie' Lawrence, born May 10, 2006 and Liberty Grace Lawrence, born March 4, 2010.
The Chippendales have brought several celebrities onto their stage for guest stripping gigs, including 98 Degrees singer Jeff Timmons and former "Bachelor" star Jake Pavelka. Channing Tatum and Kelly Ripa's husband Mark Consuelos have also opened up about being male strippers before their careers launched.
