Joe Simpson, Jessica Simpson's dad, charged with DUI
Joe Simpson, the father and manager of Ashlee and Jessica Simpson, has been charged with DUI after being pulled over earlier in the month.
The 54-year-old manager faces two counts of DUI, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles City Attorney's office told OnTheRedCarpet.com on August 15. If convicted of both charges, Simpson could face up to 6 months in jail and up to $1000 in fines.
According to to legal documents obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com, Simpson's blood-alcohol level was above the 0.08 limit and he was "under the combined influence of an alcoholic beverage and a drug." The drug in question is not specified. Simpson's arraignment is scheduled for August 30.
Simpson was pulled over around 10 p.m. PT on Saturday, August 4 in Sherman Oaks, California, according to People magazine. When police suspected that he was drunk, he was reportedly handcuffed and taken into custody.
Simpson spent the night behind bars and was released at 9:41 a.m. the next morning, without having to post bail. This was the Simpson family patriarch's first offense.
The former minister, who goes by the Twitter handle of Papa Joe and manages his daughter's careers, rose to notoriety after saying of his daughter Jessica, "She just is sexy. If you put her in a T-shirt or you put her in a bustier, she's sexy in both. She's got double D's! You can't cover those suckers up!"
Jessica Simpson and her fiance Eric Johnson welcomed her first child, daughter Maxwell Drew, on May 1. Shortly after, Simpson signed a multi-million dollar deal with Weight Watchers to be the weight loss program's newest spokes model.
Ashlee Simpson is mother to Bronx Mowgli Wentz, her 3-year-old son with her ex-husband, Fall Out Boy member Pete Wentz. Simpson filed for divorce from Wentz in February 2011. She is currently dating "Boardwalk Empire" star Vincent Piazza.
