Joe Manganiello 'had to grind on a lot of girls' for 'Magic Mike' - See video
Joe Manganiello said he was used to bearing it all on camera from his days on "True Blood" but he still needed a little training to play a stripper in "Magic Mike."
"I had to wear a thong, which was really uncomfortable," Manganiello (pronounced Mang-ah-nell-oh) told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at the film's premiere on June 24. "I had to go to stripper bootcamp and just had to grind on a lot of girls."
"My day job is running around as the naked werewolf on 'True Blood' so I stay in shape most of the year," he added. "So this one I just had to give up the elliptical for stripping."
In the film, Channing Tatum stars as "Magic" Mike Martingano, the prime money-maker of an all-male strip club called Xquisite run by former stripper Dallas (Matthew McConaughey). Mike takes a newcomer nick-named "The Kid" (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing to show him the ropes of the male stripping world while Mike tries to figure out a way to make an honest living.
Manganiello plays a character named Big Dick Richie and although the actor is nearly nude in many of his scenes, he revealed he didn't have to get his chest waxed for the film.
"I'm pretty hairless. I have no upper body hair whatsoever," Manganiello said. "So it was pretty painless. The other guys had to go waxing, which I didn't even have to do."
The 35-year-old actor, who also stars as Alcide Herveaux on "True Blood," said he had a long conversation with director Steven Soderbergh about an unusual topic before signing on for the film.
"My first conversation with Steven Soderbergh, we talked about a half an hour about penis pumps, which was very informative and interesting," Manganiello said. "So that was probably the one big question that I had. What is this thing that looks like a medieval torture device? How do we use it? How are we filming this?"
"Magic Mike" hit theaters on June 29, watch the trailer below.
