Joan Rivers calls Adele 'fat,' says 'calm down or lose weight' (Video, poll)
Joan Rivers is catching some flack after making derogatory comments about Adele's weight -- again.
In late February, Rivers mocked Adele's weight in an interview with David Letterman, commenting that the singer should have named her hit song "Rolling in the Deep ... Fried Chicken." She went on to make gestures suggesting that the singer is overweight.
On March 29, the comedienne went in for round two after taking part in a HuffPost Live chat about her notorious appearance on the late show. Rather than apologize, like she says Adele wanted her to, the personality dished up some more comments directed to the young singer.
"It's not mean," Rivers, 79, said during the online interview. "She's a chubby lady who's very, very rich, and she should just calm down -- or lose weight. She wanted an apology, so I took an ad out on her [expletive]. I said, 'You are not fat.' And then I had room for a lot of other ads."
"Adele is beautiful and successful and has what, $100 million?" she continued. "Let's face reality: She's fat!"
Rivers has faced scrutiny for her Tweets regarding the singer's weight before, posting on February 26: "On Sunday night, you could easily pick Adele's Oscar statuette out of a lineup. It was the only one wearing Spanx."
The Jewish comedienne and longtime TV fashion critic is no stranger to criticism. Earlier this month, the personality made headlines over what she said was a joke made about Heidi Klum's look at a post-Oscars party, in which she referenced the Nazi Holocaust.
"The last time a German looked this hot was when they were pushing Jews into the ovens," Rivers said about the supermodel's racy, cleavage-bearing dress, while commenting about Oscar looks on her E! Network show "Fashion Police."
The joke offended many people, and even caught the attention of the Anti-Defamation League, whose national director called for Rivers to apologize over her "vulgar and hideous" comments.
