Jewel wanted natural birth for new baby, says 'make a plan and God laughs'
Jewel says she wanted to deliver her first child naturally and even studied a method called HypnoBirthing as she prepared to welcome her baby son.
The 37-year-old Grammy-winning singer and husband Ty Murray, a 45-year-old professional bull rider, welcomed Kase Townes on July 11. He was born via an emergency caesarean section.
They always say, 'Make a plan and God laughs,' right?" Jewel told People.
Doctors made the decision to operate on the singer after a routine check-up carried out several weeks after her due date revealed that her baby's heartbeat was dropping whenever she had false labor contractions, the magazine said.
"We wanted a natural birth and I was committed to that," Jewel told People. "I studied HypnoBirthing."
The practice, also called the Mongan Method, teaches women in labor to relax. Its official website states: "When you have your baby with HypnoBirthing, you will not be in a trance or a sleep. What you will experience is similar to the daydreaming, or focusing, that occurs when you are engrossed in a book or a movie or staring into a fire."
Jewel, who also co-hosts the Bravo reality talent series "Going Platinum," and Murray married in 2008. The singer also suffered a pregnancy scare four months before her due date - she was hit by a fire truck in March. She and the baby were not harmed.
Jewel debuted photos of her new son on People's website."Isn't my boy handsome?!" she Tweeted. "#yupi'mTHATmom."
