Jessica Simpson gets engaged to Eric Johnson
Just a little more than a week after ex-husband Nick Lachey announced his engagement to Vanessa Minnillo, Jessica Simpson's representative confirms to People magazine that the singer is engaged to boyfriend and ex-NFL player Eric Johnson.
"Yes, we are excited to confirm that they are engaged," Simpson's publicist told the magazine. "He definitely makes me very happy," Simpson said about Johnson in October to USA Today. "He brings out a lot of light in me and makes me very comfortable being who I am. It's nice to be with somebody who praises you for the right reasons."
Simpson has been very public with her latest courtship. In August she posted photos of the two kissing and offering romance tips. "Romance 101..getting kissed by my Yalie...me not lookin' so smart...:) but YUM," the singer wrote on her official Twitter page. In July, the pair celebrated Simpson's 30th birthday together in Italy.
This will be the second marriage for both Simpson and her new fiancé. Johnson, who played for the San Francisco 49ers and then the New Orleans Saints before he was released from his contract in 2008, filed for divorce from his wife in January. The divorce was finalized in September 2010, according to People.
Simpson and Lachey starred on the MTV reality show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica", which documented their married life together before their divorce in 2006.
Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo announced their engagement on November 4 and Simpson had nothing but good things to say about her ex-husband's engagement.
"I couldn't be more happy for Nick," Simpson said to Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show on Thursday. "Our relationship was over a really long time ago, and it would be nice if everyone could move on with us and really just celebrate the love between him and Vanessa."
