Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard separated... two years ago
Jessica Lange and Sam Shepard have separated after being partners and raising children together since 1982.
Though the news was confirmed by the actress' spokesperson on Monday, the couple apparently split up two years ago and have been quietly "pursuing independent lives," a source told People magazine.
Lange and Shepard shared a home in upstate New York and have two kids together, Hanna Jane, 26, and Samuel Walker, 24. They never married.
Lange also has a daughter, Aleksandra, whose father is Mikhail Baryshnikov, a ballet dancer who appeared on "Sex and the City." Lange was married once - to Francisco Paco Grande. They divorced in 1981 after about 11 years. Shepard has a son, Jesse, from his past marriage to "Edward Scissorhands" actress O-Lan Jones.
Lange, 62, currently stars as Constance in the extremely popular new FX series, "American Horror Story," a role which earned her Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Award nominations.
She has received two Oscars in her career, for Best Actress in "Blue Sky" and Best Supporting Actress in "Tootsie," and four Golden Globes. She will next appear opposite Rachel McAdams in "The Vow," which is slated to hit theaters on February 10, 2012.
Shepard, an actor-playwright, has appeared in films like "Baby Boom," "Steel Magnolias," "The Notebook" and "Brothers." He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the 1983 film, "The Right Stuff."
Shepard, 68, has recently filmed several films, including the Brad Pitt crime thriller "Cogan's Trade" and the drama "Mud," which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey.
