Jessica Biel talks 'Hitchcock,' Anthony Hopkins' transformation (Video)
Jessica Biel talked to OTRC.com at the November 20 premiere of her biography drama "Hitchcock," admitting that she was initially scared to take on the role of 1950s actress Vera Miles.
"I think it was a bit of a mixture of both, you know, intense excitement because this is a highly coveted project, and something that I was, you know, terribly thrilled to be able to be a part of," Biel told OTRC.com's Tony Cabrera at the Los Angeles premiere. "Working with Helen, and Anthony and Toni - I mean it's just a cast of dreams."
"But then, I think quickly the excitement turned into absolute panic, and fear - thinking of, 'How am I going to create this person who already exists? And who had such an incredible career? And such an incredible relationship with Mr. Hitchcock?,'" Biel continued. "So, it was a mixture of emotion. Of course, working with Sacha (Gervasi) made me feel completely confident, and I think all those fears started to go away when I got on set."
Biel, 30, will play Miles, an actress who portrayed Lila in Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror movie "Psycho," known for its iconic naked shower scene, and in its 1983 sequel. Lila is the sister of main character Marion Crane. She was originally played by Janet Leigh. Scarlett Johansson will play the part of the actress in the new movie, it was announced earlier this month.
The actress, who rose to fame playing Mary Camden in the long-running series "7th Heaven," also talked about Anthony Hopkins' incredible evolution into Alfred Hitchcock.
"That was a big trip," Biel said. "I mean, it was so wild to watch him transform into this man, because after awhile he just vanished into that person, so it was actually - the weird part was to watch him actually, at the end of the day, taking it all off and turning back into himself. It started out being weird with him looking like Mr. Hitchcock, and then it was weird him looking like Anthony Hopkins. Very confusing altogether."
Biel, who recently wed longtime boyfriend Justin Timberlake on October 19 in Italy, went on to talk about the first time she saw the iconic Hitchcock film "Psycho," and why she appreciates the late director so much.
"I'm pretty sure the first time I saw it was in college, in a film course," Biel said. "And I just remember being totally impressed because I'm a huge horror movie fan and a thriller fan and I thought, 'How did this man create such a terrifying movie, without really showing almost anything?' And I think that's one of things we sort of touch on - is the absence of nudity and the absence of any sort of actual stabbing, or you know, not really even that much blood - just a tiny little trickle - and he was able to just play with the audience's emotions like that."
The film's New York premiere was held at the Ziegfeld Theatre on November 18, and the actress dazzled in an Oscar de la Renta Spring 2013 silver bead and lamé mousseline embroidered tunic and pants, as well as her engagement ring (See photos).
