It could have been Jessica Biel nabbing that iconic kiss from Ryan Gosling in the 2004 film "The Notebook."

The 29-year-old actress reveled in an interview with Elle magazine that she tried out for the role of Allie Hamilton in the film with Ryan Gossling. The actress dons the cover of the magazine's December issue.

"That's one that I wanted so badly," the actress said about the film. "I was in the middle of shooting 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre,' and I auditioned with Ryan Gosling in my trailer -- covered in blood. [Director] Nick Cassavetes put me through the wringer in an interesting, excitingly creative way."

The movie tells the love story of Hamilton and Noah Calhoun during the 1940s with flashforwards to the present. Ultimately Biel lost out on the role to Rachel McAdams and the film went on to gross $115 million worldwide. It also catapulted the careers of McAdams and Gosling who dated for three years after the film was released.

The actress, who has been in an on-and-off relationship with Justin Timberlake for four years, is currently shooting the remake "Total Recall" with Colin Farrell and Bryan Cranston.

The original science fiction movie was released in 1990 and starred Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid, a man who is haunted by a recurring dream about a journey to Mars and recalls being a secret agent fighting against the evil ruler of the Red Planet following a memory implantation.

Bryan Cranston is set to play the villain in the film, which "ditches the Martian storyline and instead involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The other day, Colin and I were in our harnesses, hoisted up 30 feet in the air looking down," Biel said about shooting the film, where she plays a prostitute named Melina with a link to Quaid's past. "The adrenaline rush of that was explosive. We hit the bottom, looked at each other, and burst into giggles. That was an I-love-my-job moment."
