Jessica Alba talks 'ACOD' role and parenting (Video)
Jessica Alba stars in the new film "A.C.O.D." as a former participant in a study about adult children of divorce and the actress told OTRC.com correspondent Tony Cabrera at the film's recent premiere that the take away for the film is to understand that "your parents are just humans."
The 32-year-old actress, who wore a black crop top and matching mini skirt from the Narciso Rodriguez spring 2014 collection to the premiere, appears in the film with "Parks and Recreation" stars Adam Scott and Amy Poehler.
In the movie, Scott plays Carter, a man who unknowingly participated in the same study as Alba's character and is sought out for a follow-up study years later. Carter's younger brother is getting married and so Carter must deal with getting both of his divorced parents to go to the wedding. Poehler plays Scott's stepmother.
"I think what's great about this movie is it takes a very serious subject matter that is normally, like, the most devastating thing that happens in people's lives, divorce, and really shows the lens, through the parents eyes," Alba told Cabrera.
"They're just trying to get by, make the best choices they can in their life and inevitably the choices you make as a parent are going to affect your kids, sometimes good sometimes bad, but you're never trying to hurt your kids," she added. "I think that's the takeaway ... for kids not to blame their parents and to be a little bit more understanding that your parents are just humans."
Alba has two daughters -- Honor, 5, and Haven, 2 -- and the actress told Cabrera she hopes her kids can forgive her in the future for mistakes she might make someday.
"I mean you think about that after you have kids, like, I know that I'm responsible for this child's, you know, happiness and sadness," Alba said with a laugh. "It's all in my control and hopefully one day they'll forgive me."
"A.C.O.D." his theaters on Oct. 4. Check out the trailer below.
