'Jersey Shore' gets two spinoff shows with Snooki, JWoww, and Pauly D
"Jersey Shore," which is MTV's No. 1 series of all time, will get two spinoff shows in 2012, one starring DJ Pauly D and the other starring best friends Snooki and JWoww.
The network announced on Thursday that they will build the "Jersey Shore" franchise with two new programs starring Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Jenni "JWoww" Farley and Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio, which will begin production later in the year.
"The 'Jersey Shore' cast is at the center of the show's ongoing success and Nicole, Pauly D and Jenni have become household names as a result of their unique, sometimes outrageous and often hilarious personalities," said Chris Linn, MTV Executive VP of Programming and Head of Production in a statement. "We're excited to put the spotlight on their lives away from the shore as they pursue their individual passions, careers and relationships. Both series are fun, fresh ways for us to evolve what is an already successful brand for us."
The untitled Snooki and JWoww project will follow the inseparable friends as they "deal with life and love when the vacation is over." The two formed one of the strongest bonds on the "Jersey Shore" set and will undoubtedly bring their unapologetic humor to whatever locale they end up in.
The untitled DJ Pauly D project will trail Pauly D on his burgeoning DJ career as he hits the road as "one of the country's most in-demand DJs." The DJ's best friends from his native Rhode Island will join Pauly D as he tries to make a name for himself in the music world.
"Jersey Shore" was the top-rated cable series of 2010, breaking ratings records and becoming a pop culture phenomenon. The hugely popular series depicts a group of party-loving, self-proclaimed "Guidos and Guidettes" and its third season premiere, which aired on January 8, was watched by more than 8.4 million people, marking the cable network's most watched series telecast.
It was announced in January that the show would return for a fourth season, to be filmed in Italy in the spring and will air later this year. Both of the spinoff shows are slated to air in 2012.
