Jermaine Jackson files petition to change his name to Jermaine Jacksun
Jermaine Jackson filed a petition in court on Tuesday, November 6, to change his last name from Jackson to Jacksun.
The 57-year-old singer, who gained fame as a member of The Jackson 5, filed paperwork in Los Angeles and stated the name change was for "artistic reasons," according to The Associated Press.
Jackson's friend Steve Dennis reportedly spoke on the singer's behalf told the wire service, "Phonetically, it changes nothing."
"It is something he has chosen to do, and it's fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you've got to blame it on the sunshine," Dennis added, referencing the Jackson 5 song "Blame it on the Boogie."
A hearing on whether Jackson will become Jacksun is scheduled for Feb. 22 in Los Angeles.
Jackson, who has been promoting his book about his brother Michael Jackson titled "You Are Not Alone," has been touring with his brothers in recent months. He was one of the siblings involved in the family dispute over Michael Jackson's estate.
He released a statement on the matter in August hoping to bring peace to the family.
