Jennifer Nettles is 'so proud' of her 'Duets' contestants - See video
Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland is starting out "Duets" on a high note and told OnTheRedCarpet.com recently that she is "proud" of her two contestants, 32-year-old John Glosson from Douglas, Georgia, and 25-year-old J Rome from Laurel, Maryland.
"I am so proud of my contestants. I love what they do, I love how they do it. They are at a level, you know, it's not like I have to sit and work with them on technique," Nettles said. "We just get to get in there and work in the rehearsals for the shows and prepare to have fun and see how we can really make it the best performance."
"So I love what they do and I trust them in how they do it and I am really so proud," she added.
The 37-year-old singer is joined on "Duets" by fellow music superstars like Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Robin Thicke. The four will search the country for two singers who will be their duet partners. Every week, the celebrity and one of their artists will perform in front of a live studio audience.
At the end of the competition, the winning partner will receive a recording contract with Hollywood Records.
When it comes down to it, Nettles said that winning the competition is all about picking the right song and entertaining the crowd both in the studio and at home.
"I think a big part of it is picking the right song, not only for each of their voices but also for the audience and in part of the case for the judges as well," she said. "We sometimes volley back and forth and we sometimes agree and we sometimes don't but we can end up coming to a consensus on something we both like within each of us as a team."
"What I will emphasize is that this is a show. So we make an effort to make sure that the songs that we choose are entertaining," she added. "We're not coming here to try to sound like a funeral, okay? And I'm not coming in here trying to be like, 'Alright I'm going to put my iPod on and here let's sing a song from Joni Mitchell 'Blue.' ' I love it but it ain't a show."
Nettles, who is a Grammy Award-winning country singer added that when it comes to a competition, she's ready to cross genres. Sugarland is known for hits like "Stay" "Settlin'" and Already Gone."
"Across the board. No hold barred in this one," she said. "This is like ultimate fighting like whatever you want, there is no tapping out by me. You cannot scare me with a genre, bring it on. "
"Duets" premieres on Thursday, May 24, at 8 p.m.
