Jennifer Lopez developing TV drama about lesbian couple for ABC Family

Jennifer Lopez has teamed up with the cable channel ABC Family to develop a drama about a lesbian couple and their family, OnTheRedCarpet.com has learned.

The 42-year-old actress, singer and co-judge of FOX's "American Idol" is set to serve as an executive producer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. An ABC Family spokesperson confirmed Lopez's participation in the hour-long project and its details to OnTheRedCarpet.com, adding that the drama is currently in development.

It depicts the lives of two lesbians who have several children. The women then bring in a teenager into their home. ABC Family airs many shows popular with young female viewers, a key demographic, such as "Pretty Little Liars" and "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."

Names of potential cast members have not been released. It is unclear if Lopez would star in the project herself. She is producing it with her company, Nuyorican Productions.

Lopez served as an executive producer of "ĦQ'Viva!: The Chosen," a Spanish-language Univision reality series that saw her and then-husband Marc Anthony traveling through Latin America to recruit performers. The program was not produced by her company.

The new project's co-creators and writers are Peter Paige and Brad Bredeweg, who co-produced the short-lived 2010 CW reality show "Fly Girls," which was about flight attendants. Coincidentally, Lopez rose to fame as a "Fly Girl" dancer on the 1990s sketch comedy series "In Living Color."

Paige is also an actor and played Emmett Honeycutt on the show "Queer As Folk." Other producers attached to Lopez's project include Nuyorican Productions President Simon Fields, who has produced films such as "Shall We Dance," which starred Lopez, and Greg Gugliotta, who produced the 2003 ABC Family movie "Beautiful Girl."
