Jennifer Lawrence sent the Web buzzing this week when the first photo of her as "The Hunger Games" protagonist Katniss Everdeen on this week's cover of Entertainment Weekly magazine went online. However, Lawrence told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith in a satellite interview on Friday, she doesn't keep up with the online chatter about the film. "I don't really go on the Internet. I don't think that's a good thing to do," Lawrence said. "I never went on it before so I'm not quite sure of all the comments and all of the hype that's going on." She added, "I know there are a lot of fans because I'm one of them." In "The Hunger Games" Lawrence plays the "plucky protagonist" Katniss who lives in the post-apocalyptic North America, which is now called Panem. The Hunger Games are an annual televised event put on by the government in Capitol city, where a boy and a girl from each district fight to the death. The Lionsgate film is based on a novel by Suzanne Collins and is set for release on March 23, 2012. The blonde actress went can be seen with brunette hair in the interview above and did it for the film. She also developed a weather-worn tan for the portrait, perhaps in an effort to convince fans of the source material that the actress was up for the role. Lawrence has also been endorsed by the "Hunger Games" author. "After watching dozens of auditions by a group of very fine young actresses, I felt there was only one who truly captured the character I wrote in the book," Collins said in a statement in March. "And I'm thrilled to say that Jennifer Lawrence has accepted the role." The 20-year-old was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in "Winter's Bone." She also recently appeared in the Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster dark comedy, "The Beaver." She will also be seen in the upcoming movies "X-Men: First Class" and "House at the End of the Street." Others who have been cast in the film include Stanley Tucci as Caesar Flickerman, the "upbeat" host of the Hunger Games televised event. Woody Harrelson also joined the cast to play Haymitch Abernathy, the mentor of heroine Katniss Everdeen, Wes Bentley of "American Beauty," who will play head game mastermind Seneca Crame, Elizabeth Banks, who will take on the role of Effie Trinket and Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, who portray Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, who compete for Everdeen's affections. Others linked to the film include Jack Quaid, the son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, Leven Rambin, Dayo Okeniyi and Amanda Stenberg. Reporting by Rachel Smith, co-host of KABC Television's entertainment show "On The Red Carpet" (check for local TV listings).
