Jennifer Lawrence pranked by Josh Hutcherson, 'Hunger Games' co-star
Josh Hutcherson appears to be quite the prankster. In fact, he says he pulled such a fast one on Jennifer Lawrence, his on-screen love interest in "The Hunger Games," that she couldn't hold it.
In the movie, which is set for release on March 23, Lawrence, 21, plays Katniss Everdeen, a young girl who lives in a post-apocalyptic future where a boy and girl from various districts are chosen and taken to a massive area where they must survive and fight to death. This event, dubbed The Hunger Games, takes place in front of cameras, who broadcast their every move to viewers.
Hutcherson, 19, plays Peeta Mellark, one of her love interests and a fellow teenage warrior. The fighters also deal with unexpected dangers, such as genetically-altered wasps called tracker jackers. Hutcherson said on a recent episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that during one scene, the creatures attack a girl and that a dummy was used to portray her.
"I put it in Jennifer Lawrence's trailer, her bathroom," he said. "So she went to go to the bathroom and she had to pee, 'cause you do when you have to go to the bathroom, and she opens the door and sees this dummy and screams and apparently peed her pants. Like, literally, laughed so hard, she peed. So I was very proud of myself, that I was able to pull off a prank like that."
A spokesperson for Lawrence had no immediate comment about his remarks. Hutcherson, who is also currently promoting the movie "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," told the same story in an interview with New York Magazine's Vulture.
"On 'Hunger Games,' I took a dummy, one that the tracker jackers were supposed to have attacked, and I put it in Jennifer's bathroom, and when she opened the door, she peed her pants," he said. "Or so I was told - she told me later. I did not get visual confirmation on that one. I think I'm basically a 5-year-old at heart."
"The Hunger Games," which is based on a book series, is being touted as the next big thing among young viewers following the success of the "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" franchises and has already spurred several fan sites and heated discussion on the Internet. Lawrence told OnTheRedCarpet.com in May 2011 that although she is a fan of "The Hunger Games," she avoids reading about it online.
Hutcherson also told Vulture that he played pranks on the co-stars of "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," which is set to be released on Friday, February 10.
The family adventure movie stars Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman, Kristin Davis and Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock. Hutcherson plays a boy who teams up with his mother's new man, played by Johnson, to find his grandfather, who is believed to be missing on an island that he later finds is dominated by giant lizards, spiders, birds and bees.
"I had this running prank going when we were shooting in the jungle, where I would take a stick, or a twig, and poke it in someone's ear and make them think they had bugs crawling in there," Hutcherson told Vulture. "Vanessa [Hudgens] and I were messing with Luis [Guzman] for about eight minutes once, poking something in his ear, pulling it out, watching him freak out. It was so hard not to laugh. And finally he went, 'I see you.' That was the best one for sure."
