The one-year-old, who turns two in August, is the son of Hudson and her fiancé David Otunga. Hudson says, "I just learn through him and he keeps me smiling every day."
She added, "I run out space on my phone trying to catch every single thing that he do. He just keeps me going. He's my inspiration."
Hudson's sophomore album "I Remember Me" hit shelves on Tuesday, but the Academy Award-winning singer and actress touches back on her days on "American Idol."
Hudson, who competed on the show's third season and finished in seventh place, says it's important that the judges aren't too nice. "I do think it's good to be critical because if people sit and tell you, 'you're perfect, you're perfect, you're perfect' you can never grow," she said.
She added, "I grew up around critics. Ok. Every day, all day. So when I got to Simon, I thought it was hilarious. Like oh, you ain't got nothing on my sister."
The former "American Idol" finalist and Oscar-winning actress is a spokeswoman for "Weight Watchers" and has lost about 50 pounds over the past year.
"I Remember Me" is the follow-up to the 29-year-old's 2008 album, "Jennifer Hudson," which won a Grammy Award and has sold more than 800,000 copies. The record features songs written and produced by Alicia Keys, her husband Swizz Beatz, Rich Harrison, Ne-Yo and Stargate.
