Jeff Conaway, star of "Taxi" and "Grease," continues to battle pneumonia and sepsis in a hospital.

Conaway's representative told OnTheRedCarpet.com that the actor remains in critical condition as he battles his ailments and is in an induced coma. Conaway was rushed to a Los Angeles-area hospital on May 11.

The 60-year-old "Taxi" and "Grease" actor is suffering from a blood infection that has reemerged, CNN on Monday, May 23, quoted a source familiar with the matter, adding that Conaway's prospect for recovery has grown "increasingly grim."

Earlier reports said Conaway had suffered an overdose, which the source and Dr. Drew Pinsky, who treated Conaway on the reality show "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," denied.

The actor has battled addictions to cocaine, alcohol and prescription painkillers since he was a teenager and talked about his struggles on the reality series in 2008.

The actor's "use of drugs caused him not to realize how ill he was, keeping him from getting treatment until it was almost too late," CNN quoted the source as saying.

Pinsky and said on his Twitter page on Saturday, May 21 that Conaway's condition was "still considered critical with #sepsis. Many people die from septic shock."

"Yes, we all need to pray for him," Pinsky added. "Not doing well today suddenly."

Conaway was also hospitalized in January 2010 after falling down a staircase in his Los Angeles home. He broke his hip and arm, fractured his back and suffered a brain hemorrhage.

Conaway played Kenickie, a member of the T-Birds clique and friend to John Travolta's Danny in the 1978 musical film "Grease" and portrayed Bobby Wheeler on the television show "Taxi," which also starred late comedian Andy Kaufman and ran between 1978 and 1983.

In recent years, Conaway recorded music with ex-fiance Vikki Lizzi. On Sunday, she posted a video on her Facebook page of what she said was the pair's last musical performance together, from Dec 4, 2010.

"Sending healing powers to Jeff through St Jude, the worker of miracles," she said.
