Jeanne Cooper, a veteran soap star on "The Young and the Restless," was hospitalized last weekend in Los Angeles, according to Entertainment Weekly. She was categorized as being in critical condition. Although details are few, Cooper's son, Corbin Bernsen, began updating the public on his 84-year-old mother's health through posts on Facebook. He reported "HUGE improvements" on Tuesday, April 16, and lauded her fans for their "continued thoughts and prayers." "This is truly becoming an extraordinary example of human resilience and the communal power of positive energy," said Bernsen, who has followed in his mother's footsteps by becoming an actor. "While we are far from done with this - and I've been told to be cautious in my thinking that - the hurdles that have been jumped by my mom, fueled by your prayers and well wishes and love, support so much of what I've come to believe and have been trying to share in the last few years." The "Psych" actor did not reveal the name of his mother's condition, yet he did describe a "breathing apparatus" that was removed on Tuesday. He also noted that "breathing was secondary but had to be dealt with first." Bernsen, who wrote that he would continue to update the public on Facebook and Twitter, described his mother as "a classic, a fighter and one hell of a momma." The actress and Emmy winner is best known for her role as Katherine Chancellor, which she has portrayed on "Young and the Restless" since 1973. She is the senior cast member of the CBS soap opera and holds a record for its longest-running character.
