Javier Bardem receives star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - See video
Javier Bardem was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, November 8, just ahead of the release of "Skyfall," which stars Bardem as the latest Bond villain. The film's director, Sam Mendes, was on hand at the ceremony and complimented the actor on his career as well as his performance in the film.
Other "Skyfall" cast mates who attended the ceremony included Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe.
The 43-year-old actor's star is located at 6834 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California.
"I'm really embarrassed," Bardem said at the event. "Especially now that I have to speak English in front of people that are looking at me, taking pictures, I guess hoping for me to say something brilliant, which I'm not going to say."
"I am here in large part because of 'Skyfall,' the latest James Bond movie and I tell you that you will not be disappointed," he added. "The great Sam Mendes has done an amazing movie and has given us -- all the people involved -- an amazing journey and a great one for me personally and professionally."
Mendes, who spoke at the event, also gave praise to Bardem's performance in the film as well as how seriously he takes on his roles in cinema.
"For me, he's part of a great tradition that includes [Marlon] Brando and [Richard] Burton," Mendes said. "He's our Brando and our Burton for this generation."
Bardem went on to compliment his co-star Daniel Craig, even going as far to call the actor "a perfect Bond."
"All I wanted to do was work professionally as an actor and now to be here and to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is an honor I never thought I would ever receive," the actor said, wrapping up his speech. "I thank you so very much for that."
In "Skyfall," Bardem plays Raoul Silva, the film's villain. Bond helps his boss M (played by Judi Dench) track down Silva after she is threatened and almost killed when the British Secret Intelligence Service headquarters is attacked.
Ralph Fiennes plays her M's boss, Gareth Mallory. The movie also sees the return of tech whiz Q, who had been missing from the two previous Bond films that starred Craig as 007 - "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace." Q is played by Ben Whishaw.
Filming took place in Turkey as well as Scotland, England and Shanghai, China. It is the third franchise film for Craig, who played James Bond in the films "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace."
The film hits theaters on November 9 but has already grossed an estimated $321 million overseas, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.
Bardem won an Oscar for his role as an assassin in the 2007 film "No Country For Old Men" and was nominated two other time for Actor in a Leading Role for 2010's "Biutiful" and 2001's "Before Night Falls."
