Jason Segel writing children's book series, 'NIGHTMARES!'
Jason Segel, star of the CBS comedy series "How I Met Your Mother" and writer of the 2011 film "The Muppets," can add a new title to his resume -- children's book author.
The 33-year-old actor and screenwriter and New York Times best-selling writer Kristen Miller, known for her "Kiki Strike" novels, are releasing "NIGHTMARES!," a series that will include a trilogy and a companion book. The first installment is set to be released in the fall of 2014. This is Segel's first book project overall and is geared toward children between ages 8 and 12.
"Both scary and funny, 'NIGHTMARES!' is an adventure story about a group of kids who realize it's up to them to save their town from fear, which has manifested itself in the form of nightmare creatures that have slipped into the everyday world," publisher Delacorte Press Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Random House, said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com on Wednesday, April 24. "At its heart, NIGHTMARES! is about kids overcoming their fears."
"Ultimately, it's a story about learning that we can accomplish anything, as long as we are brave enough to try," Segel said. "These are the types of stories that always inspired me."
Segel joins a list of other celebrity children's book authors, which includes the likes of Julie Andrews, Taye Diggs, Jada Pinkett Smith, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Jewel, Bob Dylan and Whoopi Goldberg.
In addition to "The Muppets," in which Segel played the main human character, the actor has also penned screenplays for two other movies he has appeared in -- the romantic comedies "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "The Five-Year Engagement."
