Jason Bateman explains fountain peeing scene in 'The Change-Up' (Video)
Jason Bateman recently explained why the writers of his new R-rated romantic comedy film, "The Change-Up," chose peeing in a fountain as the route to body-switching.
"The writers aren't going to bore you by having some incredibly inspired device with which you accomplish something absurd," Bateman told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the film's Hollywood premiere. "They're just like, 'Let's just have them pee in a fountain and get it over with because our obligation is to entertain you after that, not to give you some scientifically-vetted way to switch bodies.'"
The movie, which hit theaters on Friday, August 5, depicts the hijinks that ensue after a married man, played by Jason Bateman, switches bodies with his single best friend, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds, so that he can pursue his hot co-worker, played by Wilde. Leslie Mann portrays Bateman's character's wife and mother of his baby.
"The Change-Up," a play on the name of a popular baseball pitch, is rated R for pervasive strong crude sexual content and language, some graphic nudity and drug use.
"It's not just arbitrary R-rated for R-rated's sake," Bateman told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "If you switch bodies with someone, you're going to get into some R-rated situations - that's what's nice about this, the writers didn't really need to box themselves in, we go right where they would go."
Bateman recently appeared in the comedy "Horrible Bosses" opposite Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell.
The 42-year-old actor has been working steadily since appearing on "Little House on the Prairie" in 1981. He has also appeared in films like "Juno," "Up in the Air" and "The Switch."
But Bateman credits his starring role on FOX's "Arrested Development" for his career upswing.
"The show was a career saver for me," he told Entertainment Weekly in May. "And also happened to be the job I'm most proud of."
