Jared Followill of Kings of Leon weds model Martha Patterson
Jared Followill, bassist for indie band Kings of Leon, married model Martha Patterson on Saturday, September 29, 2012.
"Today, I get married," Followill wrote on Twitter, the morning of his wedding. "It's the biggest step I've ever taken. I've dreamed about this day since I was a little girl."
"Marrying my best friend today. I'm the luckiest girl in the world," Patterson Tweeted on September 29.
According to People magazine, the pair wed in an outdoor ceremony in Charlotte, Tennessee and celebrated afterwards in a "rustic house," feeding their guests fresh farm-to-table cuisine.
The 25-year-old bass guitarist for the popular Grammy-winning indie rock band announced his engagement to Patterson, 21, on May 2. He proposed on April 11 at his home in Nashville, Tennessee.
"It's true! I'm engaged! CANNOT wait to finally lose my virginity," he Tweeted on Wednesday, May 2.
The couple had been together for just a few months at the time of the proposal and split their time between Los Angeles and Nashville, according to Us Weekly. Followill was romantically linked to actress Ashley Greene in 2011 and was engaged to model Alisa Torres before they split in 2009.
Followill's brother Nathan, the group's drummer, has been married to Jessie Baylin since 2009.
Followill's cousin Matthew, the band's lead guitarist, welcomed a baby boy with his wife Johanna Bennett in April 2011.
Kings of Leon is known for hits such as "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody" from their 2008 CD, "Only by the Night," which marked their first Platinum-selling album and won the band members their first Grammy. The group has three in total.
The band's most recent album, "Come Around Sundown," was released in 2010. The record received a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Album in 2011.
Jared Followill recently announced an upcoming album with his new musical endeavor - the band Smoke and Jackal, which features Mona lead singer Nick Brown. According to Rolling Stone, the pair plan to release a six-song debut album, "EP1" on October 16.
