Janet Jackson's diet includes Sloppy Joes
Janet Jackson's chef, Andre Carthen, says the singer's new diet includes some old favorites such as Sloppy Joes, baked vegetables and veggie bites.
Carthen and personal trainer Tony Martinez are helping the 44-year-old singer, who has often battled weight problems, get into shape for her new tour, which began in Singapore in February.
"There are over 30 recipes and they are all clean. We've done a twist on some of the old favorites like Sloppy Joes. We made them kid friendly so they are tricky Sloppy Joes. We've done them on mini-wheat buns, so they are kind of like sliders," Carthen told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at a recent Los Angeles event promoting Janet Jackson's new book "True You: A Journey to Finding and Loving Yourself."
The book contains ontains some of her chef's recipes and tells of her personal struggle with weight and self-esteem, along other topics.
"We've done baked veggies for kids that don't like vegetables, we've taken them and spiced them a little bit, baked them on high and they come out so it's nice and crispy," he said. "We made it so the kids are having fun with it."
Carthen later added, "We've done things that you can eat on the go like veggie bites in the morning, which are veggies and eggs and a little cheese, so you can pop it into your mouth, they are all done in muffin tins. We do just fun, healthy, low sodium, low on the sugar, just a lot of flavor."
Martinez dished about Jackson's workout routine.
"We do a lot of functional training in this episode here and it's more like, for instance for a tour, for cardiovascular we do a lot of interval training, high speed interval training or we will walk for 3.0 minutes and run for six," he said. "But she always wants to go faster, longer and I have to hold the range back because she always wants to do more because I'm like, remember work out smarter, not harder. So, that's our main concept."
Jackson's new book' made it to No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Jackson hopes her fans get inspiration and support to help them through their journey in life.
"Hopefully my book will inspire them, will resonate [or] will touch some sort of chord. Wake something up in them and help them on their journey, in a positive way," Jackson said.
Her new tour, "Janet Jackson - Number Ones, Up Close and Personal World Tour" includes 35 cities worldwide, which started in Singapore on Feb. 7, 2011. The United States and Canada are her final stops on the tour.
