Jane Fonda, 72, wants to star in television series
Jane Fonda, a 72-year-old fitness video star, wants to star in a television series and praises the shows that currently air on cable.
Fonda has not confirmed if she has signed or plans to sign a deal to appear on an existing program or if she is developing one of her own.
"I have a sort of a vision of what it could be and that's all that I'll say," Fonda told the Associated Press. "I think the best, edgiest writing is now on cable television. It's pretty exciting."
She has not detailed which programs she enjoys. Cable television shows that have won or have been nominated for Emmys for their writing in recent years include AMC's "Mad Men", DirecTV's "Friday Night Lights", FX's "Damages" and HBO's "The Wire".
Fonda has released more than 20 fitness videos between 1982 and 1995 and her first one, "Jane Fonda's Workout", has sold more than 17 million copies. Her new exercise videos, which were released last month, cater to viewers above the age of 50 and are titled "Jane Fonda Prime Time: Walkout" and "Jane Fonda Prime Time: Fit & Strong".
"I'm on this crusade to get older people out of the chairs, off their couches, moving in a way that's safe, easy and very doable even if they've never done it a day in their lives," Fonda said. "It's never too late."
She recently filmed two movies - "Peace, Love, & Misunderstanding", which is about a conservative lawyer who takes her teenage children to meet their hippie grandmother in Woodstock, and the French flick "Et si on vivait tous ensemble?", which tells of a group of retired friends who move in with an ethnology student who is writing a thesis about aging.
Fonda is currently busy writing a book about the subject. It is called "Prime Time: Creating a Great Third Act" and is set for release in 2011. In the publication, she tells about plastic surgery she underwent recently, which she has not discussed in detail, as well as tidbits about her health and fitness habits.
Fonda made headlines in November when she said she had discovered she had breast cancer and underwent a procedure to remove a tumor, which turned out to be non-invasive.
In the past, Fonda has battled bulimia and had at one point become addicted to exercise. She has since dealt with her problems and says that she works out in moderation. Fonda showed off a trim figure at last month's Los Angeles premiere of "Burlesque", a musical film starring Cher and Christina Aguilera.
