Jamie Foxx plays a very high-profile role in the upcoming action film, "White House Down."

The 45-year-old actor talked about his new role as president at the film's New York premiere on June 25. Foxx shared where he got his inspiration for the character, as well as talked about his physical transformation.

"Just to look presidential, I lost weight," he said in an interview provided by Columbia Pictures. The normally-slim actor did not specify how many pounds he lost for the role.

"I sort of watched President Obama, watched President Clinton, watched President Bush -- I just sort of watched these guys to see how to look presidential, and then after that, I just let Roland Emmerich do his magic," he continued.

The "Ray" actor's co-star, Tatum, also had some kind words about Foxx's presidential role, saying: "There's not that many people who can play the president -- there's really not."

The film, which hits theaters on Friday, June 28, sees Foxx playing President James Sawyer. Tatum plays a capitol policeman who was just denied his dream job with the Secret Service, where he would have served as a protector to the president.

Not wanting to let his daughter down, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is then overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. With the nation's government falling, it becomes up to Tatum's character to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

"It's a lot of fun," Foxx said. "I think the audience will go, have a good time, a little family fun, you know? Throwback action film with Channing [Tatum] saving the day and getting his daughter and everything -- I think it's great."

"Working with Channing Tatum, working with Roland Emerrich -- it was just fantastic," he continued.

The thriller was directed by Roland Emmerich, who also helmed the popular 1996 film "Independence Day" and the 2004 sci-fi film "The Day After Tomorrow."
