James Franco gets Hollywood star, Seth Rogen performs comedy (Videos)
James Franco had another occasion to celebrate before Friday's release of his newest film, Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful" -- a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The 34-year-old actor was joined at the Thursday ceremony by his mother Betsy and brother Dave as well as the movie's director, Sam Raimi, and friend and frequent co-star Seth Rogen, who appeared with him in the 1990s series "Freaks and Geeks" and the 2008 stoner film "Pineapple Express." The actor took the opportunity to showcase his standup comedy skills, delighting much of the crowd.
"I've known Franco since I was 16 years old and it's nice to see that he's done so well," Rogen said. "He's really a great actor -- a lot better actor than most people think because for all the stuff he's done that is amazing, the one thing most people don't realize -- I've never actually smoked weed with this person."
"It's disappointing to hear but it's actually true," he joked. "They don't give Oscars for that, but if they did ... this is your year. I should tell people that! It's sad, almost."
Franco's star is the 2,492nd to be placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a popular tourist attraction that spans several blocks. His was placed at 6838 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of the El Capitan Theatre, which is owned by the Walt Disney Company and where the late-night show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is filmed. The series airs on ABC, which is also owned by Disney.
"Thank you for this great spot in front of the El Capitan Theatre," Franco said. "I hope Jimmy Kimmel comes and shines my star every morning."
Hollywood Boulevard is often frequented by street performers in costume -- many of whom have been featured on "man on the street" segments on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!."
"I worked as the Hulk on weekdays over there," Rogen said. "That's a sketchy area right over there. Some of those guys aren't even dressed up as superheroes, they're just a guy with a zombie mask and a pink jumpsuit, what is that guy? And then they try to charge you for pictures, which they're not supposed to do."
"This is awesome," he added. "I've actually thrown up right there which is kind of an amazing distinction of this location -- it's a good spot. Who are you next to? Is that Chuck Berry? Burt Reynolds is right behind us, which is good. Normally, it's scary if Burt Reynolds is right behind you but right now that's OK."
