James Durbin of 'American Idol' marries Heidi Lowe, Queensryche's Geoff Tate performs
James Durbin, who placed fourth on "American Idol" last year, recently married his fiance Heidi, the mother of their 2-year-old son, Hunter.
The two wed on New Year's Eve at a chapel near a forest in the Santa Cruz Mountains, near the rock singer's hometown, the Contra Costa Times reported, adding that their boy was the ring bearer.
The wedding was attended by about 85 people, including Durbin's fellow "American Idol" finalists Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone and Casey Abrams.
"@durbinrock it kicked ass," Abrams Tweeted about the event. "Thanks for the invite bro. Happy for you and Heidi. the COOLEST wedding. Loved the moment both of you walked in."
Also in attendance was Geoff Tate, singer of the heavy metal band Queensryche, who performed his band's 1984 song "Take Hold of the Flame," according to the group's Twitter page. Durbin and his new wife are both fans of the song and the hard rock genre and attended a Judas Priest concert together in November (see photo).
Durbin, who turns 23 on January 6, was the token "rocker" contestant of the 10th season of "American Idol" last year and had showcased his struggle as a musician diagnosed with Aspergers and Tourette Syndrome. He released his first album, "Memories of a Beautiful Disaster," on November 21.
"We wanted to so it small and just have our closest friends and family," he had said. "It's not for anybody else - we want to share it with our friends and family, but it's for us."
The new 11th season of "American Idol" premieres on FOX on January 18. One of the show's judges, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler, recently became engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Erin Brady.
