Jake Gyllenhaal says he would be a 'Source Code' hero
Jake Gyllenhaal, 30, stars in the action sci-fi thriller, "Source Code" and admits at the film's Hollywood premiere that if he were in the same position, he would definitely try to save some lives.
"I think, yeah, if you were to ask, 'Would I want to go into somebody else's body to stop a catastrophe from happening, to stop a thousand people from dying?' Yes, of course I would," Gyllenhaal told Rachel Smith from OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I think it's sort of a human question though, isn't it? I mean, ultimately."
In 'Source Code,' Gyllenhaal is a soldier who wakes up in the body of another man and realizes he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The mission becomes complicated when the soldier falls in love with one of the passengers.
In the film, 'Source Code' is a computer program that allows someone to enter the last 8 minutes of another person's life in order to gain perspective on what happened in an effort to prevent future disasters.
Despite the fact that much of the movie is comprised of the same 8 minutes over and over again, Gyllenhaal insists that it is far from monotonous.
"What's fascinating about it is the variation in it," Gyllenhaal explained, "because before we began, we thought okay, the only thing that's going to make this stuff work is if we come back and we go, all right, we're coming back to the same spot, how are we going to be able to play with the audience, how are we going to be able to stay ahead of the audience... It's one of these movies where you go half-way through and you go like, 'Oh I know where I... wait a second, where am I?' And you're caught in the middle and all you can do is go forward."
In Gyllenhaal's next role, he stars alongside Kirstie Alley, James Marsden, Catherine Keener and Jessica Biel in "Nailed," about a waitress who gets a nail lodged in her head and falls in love with a young senator who takes up her cause. "Nailed" is currently in post-production but there is no word on when it will be released.
'Source Code' was released in theaters on April 1, 2011.
