Jake Gyllenhaal is reason Michelle Monaghan joined 'Source Code'
Michelle Monaghan says she signed on to star in "Source Code" because she wanted to work with Jake Gyllenhaal.
"Jake's like a total seasoned actor, he's such a pro," Monaghan told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Rachel Smith at the film's recent Los Angeles premiere.
"I think that's what attracted me to the role in the first place, was the fact that I'd have the opportunity to work with him," she said. "He's great at what he does and then to find out he's a lot of fun and really sweet to boot, was just icing on the cake."
In 'Source Code,' Gyllenhaal stars as a soldier who wakes up in the body of another man and realizes he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. The mission becomes complicated when the soldier falls in love with one of the passengers (Monaghan).
The "Source Code" is a computer program that allows someone to enter the last 8 minutes of another person's life in order to gain perspective on what happened in an effort to prevent future disasters.
Monaghan, 35, says that even though the film is a non-stop adventure, there is definitely something for the female viewers as well.
"It's a really great thrill ride, it's really fast-paced and thought-provoking and at the heart of it is a really romantic love story," she said. "Chicks, you're gonna dig it too."
The actress got her big break co-starring in a season of Fox's "Boston Public." Monaghan has also starred in the black comedy "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" and opposite Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible III." In 2008, she starred in the romantic comedy "Made of Honor" and "Eagle Eye."
Monaghan's next role is opposite Gerard Butler in "Machine Gun Preacher," which is slated for release in September 2011.
'Source Code' was released in theaters on April 1, 2011.
