Jake Gyllenhaal in 'Sesame Street' Passover video
Jake Gyllenhaal explains a children's game played during the Jewish holiday of Passover in a new "Sesame Street" video.
"Guess what I did?" Gyllenhaal says in the clip. "I hid the Afikomen. I hid it in such a great hiding spot - I'm super at hiding things. It'll be so hard to find! Um, I think I forget where I hid it. Uh oh. Oh, gosh. You think you could help me?"
The week-long holiday of Passover begins on the evening of April 18. The Afikomen (pronounced in Hebrew "Ah-FEE-ko-MON") is a piece of matzo cracker, or unleavened bread, which is hidden during the traditional holiday feast, or seder, usually by the person conducting the prayers. Children are encouraged to find it and exchange it for a present or cash.
The clip was posted by "Shalom Sesame," a project by the show's production company that "offers children and families an introduction to Jewish life and Israel" through DVDs and on the Internet, according to its website.
Gyllenhaal's mother is Jewish, although it is unclear if the actor practices the religion. Eva Longoria, who raised Roman Catholic, had also recorded a video for "Shalom Sesame" in February, touting the Jewish holiday of Purim, which is similar to Halloween.
