Jack Black inspires baby panda's name (Photos)
Jack Black has inspired the name of a 3-month-old giant panda cub at Zoo Atlanta due to his animated film, "Kung Fu Panda." (see photos)The 41-year-old actor recently attended a naming ceremony for the animal, who was named Po after the character Black voices in the 2008 movie, which also spurred a sequel that is set to be released on May 27. Both films also feature Angelina Jolie, who voices the character Tigress.
Po, the real-life 10-pound panda club, is the only one of the endangered species born in a U.S. zoo last year. In return for the name, "Kung Fu Panda" studo Dreamworks donated an undisclosed sum to the zoo to help with its panda conservation program, zoo officials told the Associated Press, adding that the zoo pays China a $500,000-per-year lease to display the pandas.
Earlier this month, Black was chosen to host Nickelodeon's 2011 Kids' Choice Awards for the third time and the ceremony is set to air live from the Galen Center at USC in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 2, at 8 p.m. ET.
Black is nominated for an award for his role in his recent movie, "Gulliver's Travels" and is also known for the film "School of Rock" and for his rock band Tenacious D. He hosted the Kids' Choice Awards in 2006 and 2008.
In November, the actor reunited with his "School of Rock" co-star, Kids' Choice Award nominee Miranda Cosgrove, on a television movie back on her Nickelodeon comedy series "iCarly." Check out a full list of nominations for the 2011 Kids' Choice Awards.
