Idina Menzel, Taye Diggs split after 10 years of marriage
Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have separated after 10 years of marriage.
A spokesperson for Menzel confirmed their split to OTRC.com on Wednesday, Dec. 11.
"Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time," Menzel's spokesperson said in a statement to OTRC.com. "Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time."
Menzel and Diggs, both 42, wed in January 2003. They have one child together, a 4-year-old son named Walker Nathaniel Diggs. The two met on the set of the Broadway musical "Rent" in the '90s and reprised their roles in the 2005 movie adaptation.
Menzel, who won a Tony award in 2003 for he role as Elphaba in the Broadway musical "Wicked," recently lent her voice to the animated film "Frozen," where she plays Queen Elsa. She has also had a recurring guest role on "Glee" as the biological mother of Lea Michele's character, Rachel Berry.
It was announced earlier this year that she would be making her return to the Broadway stage in "If/Then," a musical about a woman named Elizabeth (Menzel) who tries to rebuild her life and get a fresh start in New York City. The musical, which also stars Menzel and Diggs' fellow "Rent" co-star Anthony Rapp, is set begin Broadway previews on March 5, 2014.
Diggs recently appeared in the film "Best Man Holiday." He is also known for films such as "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" and "Brown Sugar" and he had a recurring role on the show "Private Practice," which ended its run on TV earlier this year after six seasons.
