'Hunger Games'-like TV show in the works by The CW
The CW announced on Wednesday, December 12, that is developing a reality competition series called "The Hunt" that has elements very similar to those written about in the popular book and portrayed in the hit film "The Hunger Games."
According to a statement by the network, "The Hunt" will be a one-hour long wilderness competition series that takes place over the course of a month.
Twelve teams of two are provided no food, water or shelter and must compete in a game that involves physical, survival and hunting skills to endure extreme conditions, capture each other and win a large cash prize.
The series does not yet have a premiere date and will be executive produced by David Garfinkle, Jay Renfroe and Greg Goldman of "Ready for Love."
"The Hunger Games" and its sequels are based on a popular book trilogy by Collins. The first installment introduced the event, which saw children and teenagers forced to fight to the death in an arena placed in the wilderness with no food or shelter given to them.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is the second book-turned-film in the franchise and sees previous winners of The Hunger Games, including adults, return for a rematch.
"Catching Fire" is expected to wrap in December. The movie is set for release on Nov. 22, 2013.
