Hugh Jackman treated for skin cancer (Photo, Update)
Hugh Jackman has revealed that he was recently treated for skin cancer.
The 45-year-old Australian "Wolverine" star has his wife to thank for noticing the ailment. He posted a photo of himself with a bandage on his nose on his Instagram page on Thursday, Nov. 21.
"Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a basil cell carcinoma," he wrote. "Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!"
The actor underwent treatment to remove the cancerous tissue the same day, OTRC.com has confirmed.
"All is well," Jackman's spokesperson said.
UPDATE on Nov. 22: Jackman wrote on his Twitter page on Friday: "So grateful for all YOUR love & support. Thanks to Dr Albom, @DrLisaAiran, @trevormbornmd & most importantly Deb, for making me get checked."
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of cancer in the United States and is most common in people over age 40, according to the government-based National Institutes of Health. It is usually curable with surgery if detected early and also does not tend to spread.
