'Horrible Bosses' has strong opening in Friday box office

The action flick "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" maintained the top spot on Friday at the box office, but "Horrible Bosses" had a strong opening and landed in the No. 2 position. "Horrible Bosses," which stars Jennifer Aniston and a slew of comedic geniuses took in $9.9 million on Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie is on track to earn $25 million for the weekend and had a modest estimated production budget of $35 million. The movie stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day as disgruntled workers who plot to murder their bosses, portrayed by Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell. "Horrible Bosses" opened behind the Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake comedy "Bad Teacher," which grossed $12.2 million on its first Friday and ahead of Universal's "Bridesmaids," which earned $7.8 on its first day. "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which stars Shia LaBeouf and Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, continued to earn big in the box office, grossing another $14.9 million on Friday for a cume of almost $229 million. The movie had an estimated production budget of $195 million. "Transformers" is expected to reach a $260 million cume through the weekend, which would make it the top domestic title of the year, beating out "The Hangover Part II," which earned $249.6 million. The Kevin James comedy "Zookeeper" landed in third place, earning an estimated $7.4 million. The film, which also stars Rosario Dawson and Leslie Bibb is expected to gross $21 million for the weekend. The Disney and Pixar flick "Cars 2" earned the No. 4 spot on Friday, grossing $4.8 million which brings its domestic cume to $138.4 million. "Bad Teacher" stayed strong in the box office, adding another $3 million on Friday and bringing the comedy's domestic cume to $72.7 million. Check out the trailer for "Horrible Bosses" below.
