Hines Ward, a "Dancing With The Stars" contestant, was detained at gunpoint by Los Angeles police officers early Thursday morning, OnTheRedCarpet.com has confirmed.

'Dancing With The Stars' week 7

The Pittsburgh Steelers star was in a car that was reported stolen. He was not arrested. Ward and a female driver were stopped at a gas station near Los Angeles at 1:30 a.m. local time.

Officials said the driver had reported the car stolen when it wasn't where it was supposed to be when the valet parked it. She forgot to call police to cancel the report once the car was located.

Police officers said Ward was very cooperative during the whole incident.

Ward is partnered with Kym Johnson, who returns for her ninth season, on season 12 of "Dancing With The Stars."

UPDATE at 1:00 p.m. ET: Ward's spokesperson later said the incident was a "misunderstanding."
