Hilary Duff kept baby Luca's umbilical cord stump (Poll)
Former Disney star Hilary Duff revealed that she secretly kept her baby son Luca Cruz Comrie's umbilical cord stump.
"You know what was a big milestone? The belly button falling off. That was a huge one," Duff told People magazine. "And then I wanted to keep it but my husband was like, 'No, that's gross, you can't keep it!' I'm like, 'I'm totally keeping it,' and I secretly kept it."
Duff, who is the new spokesperson for Johnson's Baby Cares initiative, also opened up about how rewarding breastfeeding can be.
"It's such a wonderful bonding time," Duff said of the experience. "Just to have your baby thrive and knowing that you're doing that and you're responsible - it's such a rewarding feeling."
The actress has been keeping up with fans on Twitter, updating them on her new adventures in motherhood, calling her new addition a "Chow Hound."
"Luca fed! Mamma fed! Time to do it all again in 2 hours! Oh how life has changed! Lol In such a wonderful way," Duff Tweeted on March 26, adding the following day, "4 am...Sleepy eyed. Feeding baby..whew this job is no joke!"
Duff and her husband Mike Comrie welcomed Luca Cruz on Tuesday, March 20.
"Tuesday evening, we became proud parents of a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce beautiful boy," Duff announced on her official website on March 22. "We are overjoyed and feel like the luckiest parents in the world. He is surrounded by so much love!! Mom and baby are both doing extremely well."
The 24-year-old "Lizzie McGuire" actress titled the post, "Welcome to the World Luca Cruz Comrie." Duff and Comrie, a 31-year-old former NHL player, began dating in 2007 and got married on August 14, 2010 in Santa Barbara, California.
Comrie announced his retirement from the NHL on February 13, after his third hip surgery in five years. The Canadian athlete played for Edmonton, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Ottawa, the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh during his career.
Duff is best known for her role as the lead character on the Disney Channel series "Lizzie McGuire." She had a recurring role on "Gossip Girl" in 2009 and also guest starred on "Community" and "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The actress is also a best-selling author. Her second novel, "Devoted," was released last October.
