Gwyneth Paltrow: I only let the kids watch TV in French or Spanish
Gwyneth Paltrow recently revealed some of the secrets to her marriage and parenting style, including the fact that she only lets her children watch TV in French or Spanish.
The actress made her comments in the October issue of In Style magazine. The interview was performed by iconic designer Diane von Furstenberg and halfway through the interview, Paltrow revealed that her kids were not happy about their house rules.
"She's cross because I only let them watch TV in French or Spanish," Paltrow said of her daughter Apple, according to ABC News. "When I'm in France, I go to [Boulevard] Beaumarchais and buy all their cartoons."
The 39-year-old Oscar-winner and husband Chris Martin, 35 welcomed their first child, a daughter named Apple, in May 2004. Their son Moses was born in April 2006. Paltrow married Martin, the front man for the British band Coldplay, in December 2003.
"Our artistic temperaments together [is the hardest part]," Paltrow told Furstenberg of her marriage, according to People magazine. "Artists are sensitive. There are ups and downs, mood-wise. Musicians need a certain gravitas and focus in order to write. The temperament that goes with someone who is creative can be challenging."
Paltrow also talked to In Style about the evolution of her diet. The actress often shares her healthy lifestyle on her blog Goop.
"I was very strict for a while," Paltrow told Furstenberg. "I was macrobiotic for a couple of years, then I got pregnant and just ate ice cream. What I've learned is I want to enjoy my life, and food is a big part of it. I love to cook and feed people. I cook every day."
Paltrow's health choices have obviously influenced her young children. In Paltrow's cookbook, "My Father's Daughter," she wrote, "Oh, how my heart leaps when I see them munching down kale with brown rice."
The actress recently reprised her role as Pepper Potts in the "Iron Man" spinoff film "The Avengers," and is currently filming "Iron Man 3," but she told reporters at the Toronto Film Festival that she isn't sure she will return for the next sequel.
Paltrow told E! Online, "I'm getting old for this [expletive], you know what I mean?"
Paltrow was recently named People magazine's Best Dressed in the World for 2012. The magazine said, "Her red carpet skills are unparalleled, always arriving in unexpected, yet chic looks."
