Gwyneth Paltrow to play teacher on 'Glee', sing on show

Gwyneth Paltrow, who showcases her musical chops in the new film Country Strong, is set to guest-star as a teacher and belt out several solo songs on the FOX musical sitcom Glee, says creator Ryan Murphy.

It is unclear when viewers can expect to see Paltrow on the series. Glee began its second season on September 20 and Tuesday's episode is dedicated to pop star Britney Spears.

"Yes, its true!" Us Weekly quoted Murphy as saying about Paltrow. "She is a fan of the show. She is going to be playing a substitute teacher who Matt Morrisons character falls for. She will be doing 3 or 4 solos.

Murphy directed Paltrow, who turned 38 on Monday, in the 2006 film Running With Scissors.

"She is a friend of mine and I admire her," he said. "I said, 'If I write a part for you, will you do it?' And she said, 'Yes!' She is so talented and good at it Shes really excited."

Paltrow, an Oscar winner who is married to Coldplay singer Chris Martin, plays a country singer in the upcoming movie Country Strong, which stars Tim McGraw and Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, and provides her own vocals on a song by the same name.

Paltrow's track "Country Strong", which debuted online in June, is to be featured on the film's soundtrack when it is released on October 26 by RCA Nashville.

In the film, Paltrow plays Kelly Canter, a country singer looking for a comeback and McGraw, a real-life country star, plays her husband and manager. Meester, who plays snotty new York socialite Blair Waldorf in the CW series Gossip Girl and who has also released music, portrays a former beauty queen. The movie was written and directed by Shana Feste and is set to be released on December 22.

Paltrow also lent her vocals to the song "Cruisin", a duet with rock singer Huey Lewis that was featured on the soundtrack of the 200 film Duets.
