Golden Globes: Jennifer Lawrence wins for 'American Hustle'
Jennifer Lawrence has won the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for her role in "American Hustle," marking her second win and third overall nomination.
The winners were announced at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California on Jan. 12. Lawrence beat out Sally Hawkins for "Blue Jasmine," Lupita Nyong'o of "12 Years a Slave," Julia Roberts of "August: Osage County" and June Squibb of "Nebraska" for the award.
"American Hustle" tells the story of con artists Irving Rosenfeld (played by Christian Bale) and Sydney Prosser (played by Amy Adams), who work with FBI Agent Richie DiMaso (played by Bradley Cooper) to take down a number of New Jersey's most corrupt businessmen. Lawrence plays Rosalyn Rosenfeld, the ditzy, fast-talking wife of Irving (Bale).
Lawrence won a Golden Globe Award in 2013 for her role in another David O. Russell film, "Silver Linings Playbook," for which she took home the statue in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical category. She was also nominated in the Drama Actress category in 2011 for her role in "Winter's Bone."
