Golden Globes: Don Cheadle of 'House of Lies' wins Best TV Actor - Comedy
Don Cheadle of the Showtime show "House of Lies" has won the 2013 Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy, marking his second win and third nomination.
The winners were announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 13. Cheadle beat Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory," Alec Baldwin of "30 Rock," Louis C.K. of "Louie" and Matt LeBlanc of "Episodes."
"Wow this is unexpected. Sounds like a cliche but you really don't expect these moments to happen," Cheadle said in his acceptance speech, citing his "amazing" cast members.
"Bridgid, I love you. I love you, I love you, I love you. Goodnight, go to bed," he added, referring to his girlfriend, Bridgid Coulter.
"House of Lies" debuted in 2011. Cheadle plays Marty Kaan, a member of a management consultant team. "Veronica Mars" star Kristen Bell plays his colleague, Jeannie van der Hooven. The two work for the No. 2 ranked consulting company with an office in Los Angeles but travel to projects around the world. The show also stars "Parks and Recreation" actor Ben Schwartz as well as Josh Lawson.
"I've never seen a show that was so relevant in the current zeitgeist with, you know, Wall Street tumbling and all the Occupy movements, and I feel like dirty business is unraveling," Bell told OTRC.com in 2012.
Cheadle said at the time: "I think the cheap job of the show is to entertain and hopefully people have a great time just watching it. If it sparks interest in other areas and they really want to investigate what it is that we're talking about that's good too."
"But you know, we're taking advantage of the fact that this is happening in our country at this time and really trying to take a tweak view on it and turn all this stuff on its ear and still be entertaining and fun," he added.
Cheadle was nominated for an Emmy for his role last year. He has also been nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the HBO movie "The Rat Pack." Cheadle received both a Golden Globe and an Oscar nod for his leading role in the 2004 movie "Hotel Rwanda."
The actor is also known for playing Basher Tarr in the "Oceans" movies and James Rhodes, aka War Machine" in "Iron Man 2." He is set to reprise his role in a third movie in the Marvel franchise, which is set for release in May 2013.
Meanwhile, "House of Lies" has been renewed for season 2, which is expected to begin in early 2013.
