Golden Globe Awards: 'Girls' wins Best Television Series - Comedy

Lena Dunham's HBO show "Girls" has won the 2013 Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Comedy Or Musical, marking the show's second win and second nomination.

The winners were announced at a ceremony in Los Angeles on January 13. The show beat "Modern Family," The Big Bang Theory," ''Episodes" and "Smash."

"Girls," which is produced by Judd Apatow's production company, debuted in April 2012 to strong ratings and season 2 began on January 13 as well. The series was created by Dunham, who stars as Hannah Horvath, one of four young women in their 20s, in the New York City-based show.

"Girls" also stars Allison Williams, daughter of NBC news anchor Brian Williams, Zosia Mamet, daughter of playwright David Mamet and Jemima Kirke.

Earlier, Dunham won a Golden Globe for her role on the show. "Girls" has also been nominated for five Emmys and has won one.
