Golden Globe Awards 2014 red carpet flooded before ceremony (Video)
The 2014 Golden Globe Awards 2014 red carpet suffered water damage after a hot light set off sprinklers on Sunday, Jan. 12, hours before celebrities were set to arrive.
Witnesses reported a smell of sewage following the accident. Workers later worked to vacuum and dry the carpet and guests began to arrive without delay.
"We can confirm that there was a malfunction with a sprinkler near the red carpet," read a joint statement issued by venue the Beverly Hilton, organizer the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and production company Dick Clark Productions on Sunday.
"The situation was quickly resolved," they said. "Despite the incident the red carpet will open at its regularly scheduled time. As some of the biggest names in entertainment are scheduled to attend Golden Globe Awards tonight, we wanted to give the carpet one last wash before it opened."
The 2014 Golden Globes ceremony airs live from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET. (Check OTRC.com and follow @OnTheRedCarpet on Twitter for live updates on winners and red carpet fashion photos.)
