'Glee' creator: 'We are writing a Britney Spears episode'; Javier Bardem's reported role denied
The upcoming second season of Glee, which begins in the fall, will feature an episode dedicated to Britney Spears, a report said on Friday, following media speculation earlier this year, but one of its producers denied a reported guest appearance by Javier Bardem.
"We are writing a Britney Spears episode," Glee creator Ryan Murphy told the Entertainment Tonight television show.
The pop singer, best known for hits such as "Baby, One More Time", "Toxic" and "Gimme More" has not commented on the report. Spears launched her "Circus" comeback tour last year and has managed to rebuild an image many thought was forever tarnished by psychiatric care stints, excessive partying and a now-infamous head-shaving incident.
Glee recently nabbed 19 Emmy nominations. The FOX musical comedy series features a group of high school misfits singing popular music as well as Broadway hits.
It was unclear if Spears is set to appear on Glee in person. The previous debut season featured guest appearances by crooner Josh Groban, pop singer and actress Olivia Newton-John and Neil Patrick Harris. John Stamos has confirmed he will appear in season 2.
Murphy had told OnTheRedCarpet.com in April that Spears "certainly would love to do it. And I think shes phenomenally talented. And the kids and the cast certainly have a great connection to her. So maybe, yeah. Were going to talk about it."
Meanwhile, Dante Di Loreto, an executive producer for Glee, denied a report that said Bardem, an Oscar-winning Spanish actor, would guest-star on the second season, saying on his Twitter page: "No, javierbardemjenniferanistonjuliarobertsbradpittelvis katieholmestomcruiseandu2 are not appearing in season 2. But wouldn't it be fun...."
