Gisele Bundchen shares breastfeeding photo, shows 1-year-old daughter
Gisele Bundchen, the highest-paid model in the world and wife of NFL star Tom Brady, recently shared a photo of herself breastfeeding her 1-year-old daughter, Vivian Lake.
In the picture, which was posted on her Instagram page on Tuesday, the 33-year-old is dressed in a white bathroom and feeds her child while a woman appears give her a manicure and two men do her hair and makeup. (See the photo here - warning - NSFW)
"What would I do without this beauty squad after the 15 hours flying and only 3 hours of sleep #multitasking #gettingready," she said.
It is unclear when the photo was taken. Bundchen and Brady welcomed their daughter on Dec. 5, 2012. They are also share a 4-year-old son.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that mothers breastfeed their newborn children until they are six months old and that "babies should continue to breastfeed for a year and for as long as is mutually desired by the mother and baby."
According to the World Health Organization, "exclusive breastfeeding is recommended up to 6 months of age, with continued breastfeeding along with appropriate complementary foods up to two years of age or beyond."
In 2010, Bundchen made headlines when she said in an interview with Harper's Bazaar magazine's UK edition that mothers should be required by law to breastfeed their babies for six months rather than use formula, or "chemical food," as she called it. She added that she thinks breastfeeding her son "really helped" her maintain her figure.
She later said on her blog: "My intention in making a comment about the importance of breastfeeding has nothing to do with the law. It comes from my passion and beliefs about children. Becoming a new mom has brought a lot of questions, I feel like I am in a constant search for answers on what might be the best for my child. It's unfortunate that in an interview sometimes things can seem so black and white."
Bundchen was named no. 1 on Forbes' 2013 list of highest-paid models with estimated annual earnings of $42 million.
