'Girls' and 'Veep' renewed by HBO for second seasons

HBO series "Girls" and "Veep" are coming back for second seasons, the network announced in a statement on April 30, according to the Associated Press.

Both of the comedies, which debuted this spring, get 10-episode seasons for their second seasons.

"Girls" has been a buzzed about series created by Lena Dunham, who stars as one of four young women in the New York City-based show. The series also stars Allison Williams, daughter of NBC news anchor Brian Williams, Zosia Mamet, daughter of playwright David Mamet and Jemima Kirke.

"Veep" debuted with strong ratings and features Dreyfus as former Senator Selina Meyer who becomes vice president of the United States but finds the job is entirely different than what she believed it to be.

The series also stars Anna Chlumsky of "My Girl" and "Lights Out," as well as "Arrested Development" star Tony Hale.
